The wedding of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Prince Charles in 1981, often called the "wedding of the century," is widely considered one of the most iconic and impactful royal weddings of the 20th century, attracting a global audience of 750 million viewers.
In 1980, Diana began dating Princes Charles. He invited her to dinner at the Buckingham Palace, the home of the royal family and a few months later, he asked her to marry him. She said "yes"! The whole world got a glimpse of her stunning sapphire ring in which she picked out herself from the royal jewelry collections. That same year, they got married at St. Pau's Cathedral in London. It was a fairy tale wedding. Diana, like Cinderella, was a young woman who became a princess through marriage to Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne. Princess Diana's gown was one of the fanciest wedding people dresses; embroidered with 1000 pearls while the veil that was attached to her tiara was 459 feet long. Diana used her fame to bring awareness to charities and organizations that helped improve lives. In 1995, after 15 years of marriage, Diana and Charles divorced. She'd knew that she'd never be the queen after the divorce but she remained the queen of people's hearts even after her tragic death. Today's Diana's legacy lives on in her children.
